Solar Cooling / Trigeneration
The solar trigeneration system includes the production of electricity, cooling & heating and is capable of providing the energy required by the consumer at the time or in the most cost-effective manner. If the heating source is solar irradiation, the system acts as trigeneration solar thermal system. Traditionally, a photovoltaic thermal (PVT) system integrates photovoltaic cells and solar thermal systems for the cogeneration of electrical and thermal energy from solar energy. This solar energy supply concept allows solar energy to be integrated much more effectively and profitably, which is an important step towards a 100% renewable structure.

GHG Reduction Potential
Solar cooling has the potential to significantly reduce the amount of energy and greenhouse gases emitted by conventional air conditioning systems. The use of the innovative low-energy cooling technologies for heating and cooling will bring fuel savings of 5 Mtoe per year in 2030, corresponding to 9 million tonnes of CO2. Another instance is by utilizing solar-driven air conditioning technology, the Mediterranean nations have reduced their energy consumption for refrigeration and air conditioning by 40–50%.
