The International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre (hereinafter ISC3) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH (hereinafter GIZ) attach great importance to responsible and transparent management of personal data.
Below we provide users with information as to

2. Information on the collection of personal data
2.1 General
GIZ processes personal data exclusively in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the German Federal Data Protection Act (Bundesdatenschutzgesetz, BDSG).Personal data are, for example, name, address, email addresses and user behaviour.
GIZ only processes personal data to the extent necessary. Which data is required and processed for which purpose and on what basis is largely determined by the type of service you use or the purpose for which the data is required.
2.2Collection of personal data when visiting our website
When you use our website for informational purposes only, i.e. when you do not send us any other information, we only collect the personal data that your browser sends to our server. If you wish to view our website, we collect the data that is technically necessary for us to display our website and to ensure its stability and security.
In detail, the following data is temporarily stored in a log file for each access/retrieval:
- Technical details of the browser used
- Anonymous IP address
- Date and time
- Page opened/name of the file downloaded
- Quantity of data transferred
- Notification of whether viewing or download was successful
The GIZ is additionally obliged on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e GDPR in conjunction with § 5 BSI-Law to store data to protect against attacks on the internet infrastructure of the GIZ’s project ISC3 (www.isc3.org) and the communication technology of the Federal Government beyond the time of your visit. This data is analysed and, in the event of attacks on communications technology, is required to initiate legal and criminal prosecution. The data will be deleted as soon as they are no longer required for the fulfilment of the task.
Data that is logged when you access the ISC3 website is only transferred to third parties if we are legally obliged to do so or if the transfer is necessary for legal or criminal prosecution in the event of attacks on the communication technology of the German Federal Government. We do not pass on information in other cases. A consolidation of this data with other data sources does not take place either.
2.3 Cookies
When you visit the ISC3 website, small text files known as ‘cookies’ are stored on your computer. They are used to make the online presence more user-friendly and effective overall. Cookies cannot run programs or infect your computer with viruses.
The ISC3 website uses cookies that are automatically deleted as soon as the browser on which the page is displayed is closed (referred to as temporary cookies or session cookies). This type of cookie makes it possible to assign various requests from a browser to a session and to recognise the browser when the website is visited again (session ID).
2.4 matomo analysis service (user analysis)
On its website, the ISC3 uses the web analysis service “matomo” (matomo.org) to analyse usage data.
matomo uses cookies to enable a statistical analysis of the use of the ISC3’s website by its visitors. matomo cookies do not contain any information that would enable a user to be identified. Each time a user accesses the ISC3 website and each time a file is downloaded, data on this process is temporarily stored and processed in a log file. Prior to storage, each data record is made anonymous by changing the IP address.
On the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e GDPR in accordance with § 3 BDSG, the GIZ evaluates usage information for statistical purposes as part of its public relations work and for the demand-oriented provision of information on the tasks to be performed by GIZ.
The data generated with matomo is processed and stored by us directly on the webhost of this website exclusively in Germany.
Therefore, no data is exchanged with matomo.org or any other third-party websites or services.

Notes on opposition
If you do not agree to a completely anonymous storage and evaluation of this data from your visit, you can object to the storage and use of this data at any time by clicking on the mouse.

You may choose to prevent this website from aggregating and analyzing the actions you take here. Doing so will protect your privacy, but will also prevent the owner from learning from your actions and creating a better experience for you and other users.
For this purpose, a so-called opt-out cookie is stored on the end device, which prevents the collection of user data when visiting this website. In order for the opt-out to be effective, the cookie must be stored on every terminal device used. Since the cookie is stored in the respective browser (Internet program), the cookie must be stored in each browser if several browsers are used on one end device (e.g. Internet Explorer, Chrome, Mozilla Firefox).

2.5 Member Login Area
Personal data needs to be entered and added in order to access the member log in area (for example the Online Atlas, the Event Calendar and sign up for Newsletter).
3. Processing of personal data when contacting us
When users contact us, the data provided is processed in order to be able to respond to the enquiry. The following contact options are available:

- Letter
- Phone
3.1Contact form
A form is provided on the ISC3 website to enable you to contact us electronically. When you use the contact form, we process your title, family and given names, email address and, where appropriate, your postal address and additional personal data provided in the enquiry. Providing the postal address is optional and allows, if desired, a reply to the enquiry by post.
The processing is based on consent in accordance with Article 6 (1) a GDPR and for the purpose of processing your request.
By activating the checkbox and submitting the contact form, the user agrees to the transmission and storage of his or her personal data. It is possible to cancel the process of filling out the contact form at any time. Data is only transmitted if the form is sent.
An SSL-encrypted connection is used to transmit the data to GIZ.
3.2 Contact by email
Alternatively, it is possible to contact ISC3 via the email address provided. In this case, at least the email address but also any other personal user data transmitted with the email (e.g. family and given name, address) as well as the information contained in the email are stored solely for the purpose of contacting the user and processing the request.
The legal basis for the processing of data in connection with email communication is Article 6 (1) e GDPR.
3.3Contact by letter
When contacting us by letter, the personal data transmitted (e.g. family and given name, address) and the information contained in the letter is stored for the purpose of establishing contact and processing the enquiry.

3.4Contact by phone
When contacting us by phone, personal data will be processed to the extent necessary in order to handle the enquiry.

4. Provision of information
On the ISC3 website it is possible to subscribe to a newsletter. Personal data is processed depending on the way in which information is provided.
4.1 Newsletter
Personal data is used for the purpose of processing the subscription to each respective newsletter.The data is processed and used exclusively for sending the newsletter. There is no external software used, the newsletter is managed via wordpress.
After entering the email address, users receive an email containing a link for confirming the authenticity of the address and the subscription (‘double opt-in’). If users do not confirm the registration by clicking on the link contained in the email, the data is deleted immediately.
The legal basis for the processing of data in connection with the dispatch of newsletters is their consent in accordance with Article 6 (1) a GDPR.
The newsletter subscription can be cancelled at any time. If the subscription is cancelled, all personal data is deleted from our database.
5. Processing of personal data in connection with social network use
On its website, ISC3 invites users to visit its company presence on social networking sites and platforms including, but not limited to, Twitter , LinkedIn, YouTube and Facebook.
These online presences are operated to interact with the users that are active on these sites and platforms and to inform them about projects and services. By clicking on a social network’s logo, the user is redirected to the ISC3 presence on the respective network.
When users visit the platforms, personal data is collected, used and stored by the operators of the respective social network, but not by GIZ. This is also the case even if the users themselves do not have an account with the respective social network.
The individual data processing operations and their scope differ depending on the operator of the respective social network. GIZ has no influence on the collection of data or its further use by the social network operators. We are not fully aware of the extent to which, where and for how long the data is stored; to what extent the networks comply with existing obligations regarding erasure; what analyses are conducted and links established with the data; and to whom the data is disclosed.

6. Processing of personal data in connection to the ISC3 Event Calendar, ISC3 Online Atlas, and Global Start-up Service (GSS) online library
On its website, the ISC3 invites users to become a member to have access to the Online Atlas and Event Calendar function as well the Global Start-up Service (GSS) online library of the website. By becoming an ISC3 member the user agrees to share and store their personal data, including but not limited to the name, address, organization, and email, with the GIZ. See following overview:

7. Disclosure to third parties
GIZ does not pass on personal data to third parties unless it is legally obliged or entitled to do so by law.
8. Transfer of data to countries outside Germany
GIZ does not transfer personal data to third countries. When using social media, the privacy policies of the respective providers apply.
9. Duration of data retention
User data will not be kept any longer than is necessary for the purpose for which it is processed or as required by law.
10. IT security of user data
GIZ accords great importance to protecting personal data. For this reason, technical and organisational security measures ensure that data is protected against accidental and intentional manipulation and unintended erasure as well as unauthorised access. These measures are updated accordingly based on technical developments and adapted continuously in line with the risks.
11. Reference to user rights
You can request an overview of all data that we have collected from you at any time. You can also ask how we use your data. If your data should be incorrect, you can request a correction of your data. If you delete your account on isc3.org, you can also request the immediate deletion of your personal data form our system. During the processing of your request for transparency, revocation or deletion you can request the restriction of your data processing. In this case, we store your data for the purpose of processing of your request.

Visitors to the ISC3 website have the right
- To obtain information about their data stored by us (Article 15 GDPR)
- To have their data stored by us rectified (Article 16 GDPR)
- To have their data stored by us erased (Article 17 GDPR)
- To obtain restriction of processing of their data stored by us (Article 18 GDPR)
- To object to the storage of their data if personal data are processed on the basis of the first sentence of Article 6 (1) 1 f and e GDPR (Article 21 GDPR)
- To receive their personal data in a commonly used and machine-readable format from the controller such that they can be potentially transmitted to another controller (right to data portability, Article 20 GDPR)
- To withdraw their consent to the extent that the data has been processed on the basis of consent (Article 6 (1) a GDPR). The lawfulness of the processing on the basis of the consent given remains unaffected until receipt of the withdrawal.
Users also have the right in accordance with Article 77 GDPR to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection supervisory authority. The competent authority is the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI).
